HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF or HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF?

HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF oder HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF?

Differences between the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF and the HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF

Both the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF and the HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF were released in 2013. Both models share the same form factor, meaning they actually have the same physical size and shape.

Both models use the same generation of Intel processors. We believe 4th-generation Intel processors have enough power to handle all the home and office tasks most people want to do.

memory

Both models have the same number of RAM slots (4 RAM). Generally, two RAM slots are more than sufficient for most situations. However, this amount should be considered when planning the amount and combination of memory required for your system.

Performance

Neither desktop has an advantage when it comes to memory usage speed. Both models support RAM speeds up to 1600. You can also install the same amount of RAM in both models, and 32 GB of RAM will likely be sufficient for most people. However, those who need more memory should also consider other desktop models.

Connections

Both models have the same number of USB ports, a total of 10. If that's not enough, using a USB hub is always a viable option. Neither desktop model has USB 3.1 (10 Gb/s) ports, so anyone needing a fast connection to a peripheral, such as an external solid-state drive, will have to look elsewhere.

DisplayPort is generally the more common video port on desktops and laptops, while HDMI ports are primarily used in consumer electronics. That's why it's nice to see DisplayPort on both models. Neither model has an HDMI port. If your monitor only supports HDMI, you'll need to purchase an adapter. This adapter is inexpensive, so don't worry.

The SATA connector is located on the system board and allows you to connect hard drives and optical drives.

More SATA slots allow for the simultaneous operation of larger drives. In this regard, the HP ProDesk 600 G2 SFF power supply is better positioned due to its four SATA slots, while the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF has three.

The M.2 SSD interface enables faster data transfer than the traditional SATA interface. Unfortunately, neither the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF nor the HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF have such an interface. However, they will still use a SATA SSD drive, which should offer excellent overall performance.

Make sure the M.2 slot supports the PCIe interface (also known as NVMe). This can be crucial, as some M.2 slots best support the inferior SATA III interface. For comparison, the SATA III interface has a maximum speed of 6 Gbps, while the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface supports speeds of up to 32 Gbps!

Power supply

Above-average overall power supply performance is crucial, especially if you use additional devices that require higher power. The ProDesk 600 G1 SFF power supply comes with a reasonable 240-watt power supply, but the EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF power supply has a more efficient 320-watt power supply. Whether you choose one or the other depends on your exact needs and use case. Also, keep in mind that some models offer multiple power options—plan to choose the most efficient one, especially if you intend to use a powerful graphics processor. Whether you buy the HP ProDesk or the EliteDesk, either model is a good choice.
